October is National Dental Hygiene Month

The month of October is recognized as National Dental Hygiene Month and there is no better time to reevaluate your oral health.  So many of us put off our oral health because of time, money, fear or convenience and it’s important to understand the consequences of putting off regular dental checkups and follow up appointments.

So many individuals believe that staying away from the dentist will save them money, when in reality the opposite may be true.  Preventative care is so crucial when it comes to our oral health because it can help prevent some serious troubles that will end up costing the patient a lot more money than a teeth cleaning.  Some of these complications include chronic bad breath, tooth decay, root canals, oral cancers, nerve damage and the wearing away of teeth.  If left untreated, or diagnosed in late stages, serious and permanent damages could occur.

If fear is holding you back from a checkup, talk to a qualified sedation dentist about the variety of options you have to calm your nerves.  If you meet with your dentist before big problems arise you may save yourself from complicated and invasive procedures.  This month, take the time to determine when you should visit the dentist next and seriously take the time to make an appointment.  You could end up saving yourself time, money, discomfort and unnecessary worry.
