How to Avoid the Dreaded Root Canal

People generally shutter at the thought of a root canal, and rightfully so.  Without the proper sedation dentistry application, a root canal can be very painful.  The good news is that there are some things everyone can do to prevent a root canal from being part of your future.  There is no guarantee you will never need one, but proper oral hygiene can greatly decrease your chances.

Teeth need a root canal once the pulp of the tooth has become so decayed that it is essentially dying.  An untreated infected tooth can spread to supporting tissues other parts of the body so it’s very important to get it taken care of as soon as possible.   Do not let fear hold you back because an untreated infection can be much worse than the root canal itself.  Sedation dentistry has come a long way and can instantly calm nerves and greatly minimize pain.

So what can you do to keep root canal procedures out of your future.  Oral health is key.  Aside from brushing and flossing regularly, it’s crucial to see your dentist as often as they recommend.  A sedation dentist’s trained eye can quickly spot trouble areas that have the potential of turning into severe infections.  You should immediately see your dentist for a chipped or damaged tooth to ensure infection doesn’t grow.  And definitely see your dentist with any pain or discomfort to nip the problem in the bud as soon as possible.  Early prevention is key to avoid a root canal.
