Afraid of a Root Canal?

Root canals have the reputation of being an excruciating experience for patients and many run from the idea of getting one.  This is not in patients’ best interest since a root canal may be necessary for good oral health.

Severe decay can affect the tooth pulp which is where the nerve and blood channels reside in each tooth.  If a dentist finds that your pulp is severely affected, but the tooth can be saved, a root canal may be recommended.  This common procedure is where the dentist removes the pulp and cleans the channels of the affected tooth.  This may sound extensive and painful, but it doesn’t have to be.

Luckily, modern dentistry has made this procedure relatively quick with options for minimal pain through sedation.  Whether your dentist recommends a sedating gas, sedation pill or sedation IV know that you can trust the results.  Getting a root canal does not have to be the scary procedure many think it is.  Dentistry has come a long way to ensure root canals can be completed efficiently, since they are often crucial to oral health.
