The American Academy for Oral Systemic Health

In a previous blog we discussed the sugar, xylitol, and how it impacts our oral health.  You may be wondering why this tool for oral hygiene is not well-known and why it’s not pushed by all dentists.  The answer is education and there is a group out there working towards this goal.

Many sedation dentists are very busy helping patients recover from gum disease and poor oral health.  Because of this they may not be focusing on preventative measures with their patients.  The American Academy for Oral Systemic Health is a group of dentists who believe xylitol and other new measures can be taken to ensure proactive efforts be made towards the elimination of tooth decay.

The goal of this group is to gain dentists, hygienists, and other health professionals who demonstrate a solid knowledge of how the health of our mouth works.  There needs to be more awareness of the role xylitol and other preventative measures for better oral health.  These dentists typically recommend a daily xylitol system to their patients with great resutls.  The strong link between oral health and overall health is being recognized throughout the nation and this is in part thanks to groups such as the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health.
