Not Visiting Your Dentist Can Be Expensive

Millions of Americans miss their annual dental checkup for a variety of reasons.  One of the most cited reasons is cost.  Americans believe that by skipping a trip to the visit they can save on costs.  In reality, the opposite is actually true.  Not visiting your dentist regularly can have very costly side effects and also put your health in jeopardy.

The Institute of Medicine states that around 33 million Americans do not have convenient access to dental services and 5 million children are missing the recommended two dentist visits per year because parents cannot afford the cost.  What people must realize is that if oral health is not made a priority, fixing the problems that may arise can be much more expensive than a checkup.

As an example, if you avoid getting your teeth professionally cleaned regularly you run the risk of a cavity.  If you choose to ignore a cavity, you put yourself at risk of getting a serious tooth infection that will be much more expensive to take care of than a tooth cleaning.  Years and years of neglecting your oral health can lead to losing your teeth, and replacing teeth through implants or dentures is going to cost you significantly more than some dentist visits.

As you can see, it makes sense to keep up with your oral health.  This involves brushing regularly, flossing, limiting sugary foods and of course visiting your Miami sedation dentist twice a year for a cleaning and full exam.
