Go Back-to-School with Great Oral Health

It’s that time of year again where just about every retailer is pushing “Back to School” specials on consumers.   Parents around the country are taking their children to local stores to purchase school supplies, clothing, shoes and more.  While many have notebooks, pens, Kleenex, and the latest Nikes on their lists, few think about adding dental hygiene products to their “must-haves” inventory.  That’s precisely why Crest and Oral-B have teamed up with Actress Jennie Garth to promote their new line of kid-focused oral health products, as described in a recent Business Wire article.

Jennie Garth, former Beverly Hills, 90210 actress and mother of three, believes it’s important to build a healthy foundation for her daughters through instilling good habits related to nutrition, fitness, and oral care.  Many don’t realize just how connected oral health and overall well-being are, which is why awareness and education need to be promoted.  The summer months are often routine-free as kids and parents alike take advantage of a freer schedule and longer days.  It can be difficult to establish or maintain healthy routines in those months, which is why Garth believes the back-to-school season is a great time to set-up and follow through with good, healthy practices as everyone gets back into the swing of things.

Crest and Oral-B have set out to make this process as easy as possible by launching their new kid-focused product lines.  A new electric toothbrush geared towards tweens (kids who are ages 8 and up) is being introduced as dentists around the country are seeing higher levels of tooth decay in youngsters.  Oral-B Stages, products designed for tots ranging from 4 months to 7 years, has added a new Disney favorite to their product line, featuring Jake and the Neverland Pirates.    The key to good oral health is establishing proper brushing and flossing habits at an early age.  Dr. Jennifer Salzer, dentist and mother of four, believes that these practices, coupled with regular dental checkups, will establish healthy lifestyle habits that will prevent tooth decay and gum disease, which have recently been linked to a slew of other health conditions.  The most important component of proper oral care happens at home, and it’s up to parents to ensure that their children get started on the right path to oral health.
